Argentina star Lautaro Martinez opened up on facing Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. The Inter Milan striker lavished praise on La Roja and highlighted that they have great players.

The Albiceleste secured a comeback 2-1 win against England in the second semi-final of the FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, July 15. Meanwhile, Spain completely dominated France to secure a 2-0 win in the first semi-final on Tuesday, July 14.

Lionel Scaloni’s side will take on the reigning European champions in the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday, July 19. After their 2-1 win against England in the semis, the match-winner Lautaro Martinez was quizzed on their next opponents Spain.

The 28-year-old hailed La Roja’s quality and insisted that they will do everything to prepare well for the game. He also insisted that Argentina need to enjoy their achievement of qualifying for two back-to-back FIFA World Cup finals. He said, as quoted by ESPN FC:

“They are a rival with great players, so now we need to rest and recover as much energy as possible to prepare for the final in the best way possible. But we also get to enjoy it because what we are accomplishing is difficult, reaching the final after three-and-a-half years being the reigning champions is not nothing. So, we get to enjoy this to the max.”

Spain and Argentina were scheduled to face each other in the Finalissima in Qatar in March earlier this year and will now finally face each other. The game got cancelled due to rising political tensions in the Middle East.

Argentina star makes big claim about England after FIFA World Cup S/F win

Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez insisted that England were tired in the closing stages of the game in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final. Thomas Tuchel’s side surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose the game 2-1 with Lautaro Martinez scoring the winner.

After the game, Martinez claimed that England were tired after the first 60 minutes because of intense pressing. He claimed that the Three Lions did not have much left in the tank in the final half an hour. He said:

“England got tired. They pressed for 60 minutes. After that they had nothing left.”

Argentina will have the opportunity to become only the third team to win back-to-back FIFA World Cups. Only Italy and Brazil have achieved the feat in the past, but Spain will be a huge challenge for the reigning world champions.
