Historically, Angelenos have split their city into two culturally distinct halves: the tonier, industry-driven Westside, and the scrappier, more bohemian Eastside. Though the accompanying signifiers have blurred over time, you’ll still find a breezy, beachy, and posh vibe in Westside neighborhoods including Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and Malibu. Likewise, you’re more likely to spot vintage stores, indie bands, and hip coffee shops and bars in Eastside neighborhoods such as Echo Park, Silver Lake, Highland Park, and Atwater Village.
Los Feliz and the Hollywood Hills feel like old LA with charming, early-20th-century homes, mature greenery, and close proximity to iconic landmarks such as Griffith Park, the Hollywood Bowl, and the still-hopping Musso & Frank restaurant, which has been featured in countless films since its 1919 opening. Additionally, Downtown is LA’s densely populated city center with contemporary skyscrapers and refurbished Beaux Arts and Art Deco buildings as well as a walkable mix of restaurants and bars.
