The Telangana health department will administer Pulse Polio vaccine drops to around 40.97 lakh children below the age of five across the State on Saturday (June 27, 2026) and June 28, as part of the nationwide immunisation programme. Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha, on June 26, reviewed the arrangements for the campaign and directed officials to ensure that no eligible child is left out.

The Minister said the vaccination drive should cover every child through fixed booths, mobile teams and door-to-door surveys. He stressed the need to focus on children of migrant workers and those residing at construction sites, urban slums and tribal areas.

According to officials, polio drops will be administered at 22,979 booths across Telangana on June 28, followed by house-to-house visits on June 29 and 30 to vaccinate children who may have been missed. Considering the extensive urban population in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medchal Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts, the Minister suggested extending the campaign by an additional day on July 1 in these districts.

To support the programme, the Health Department has supplied 52.04 lakh doses of the bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (bOPV) to districts. The campaign will be carried out by 8,393 Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), 27,181 Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), 34,442 Anganwadi workers, besides nursing students, teachers and volunteers. A total of 903 mobile teams and 903 transit teams have also been deployed.

The Minister directed officials to coordinate with departments including Women and Child Welfare, Municipal Administration, Panchayat Raj, Education and the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) to ensure smooth implementation of the campaign.

Telangana has remained free of polio since the last reported case was recorded in 2007.
