Former Team India opener Kris Srikkanth believes 2026 T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav must be all smiles after the side’s dismal T20I series against England. Despite his incredible record as T20I captain and his recent success in leading India to T20 World Cup glory, Surya was removed as captain and from the squad, with Shreyas Iyer replacing him at the helm.
However, things have gone shockingly downhill for the Men in Blue under Iyer, with six consecutive losses in as many completed games. India suffered an embarrassing 0-2 T20I series whitewash against Ireland in Iyer’s first assignment as captain, followed by a 0-4 loss to England.
Talking after the series drubbing against England on his YouTube channel, Cheeky Cheeka, Srikkanth said (2:10):
“India got demolished asusual. Only Buttler was sleeping so the Indian bowlers ensured to wake him up. They almost welcomed him clobbering them by feeding him balls to hit all over the ground. Everyone is just taking turns to smash the Indian bowling. Suryakumar Yadav must be having a great time and enjoying himself seeing this team. Harry Brook looks at the Indian bowling like badam halwa. The Indian bowling is super tasty for him.”
In the final T20I against England, India suffered a dismal beatdown with the ball, conceding 257 in 20 overs before losing by 56 runs.
“A few just padded runs in a match long dead” – Kris Srikkanth on India’s batting in the 5th T20I
Kris Srikkanth dismissed India’s batters, who churned out runs in a lost cause in the final T20I against England in Southampton on July 11. Chasing an improbable 258 for victory, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma scored quickfire half-centuries to make the final result look competitive.
“A few just padded runs in a match long dead. Chasing 260, you have to smash it from the get-go, which helped a few score meaningless runs. The only good thing the Indian batters did was show some intent. They atleast went for the target, even if it was impossible,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
India suffered their first back-to-back T20I series loss since the start of 2019 when they lost consecutive series against New Zealand and Australia.
