ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith weighed in on the controversy around Karmelo Anthony, a teenager who was found guilty of fatally stabbing one of his peers, Austin Metcalf, at a high school athletics event in Texas in April last year. The two athletes were at a secondary school track meet in Frisco when the incident took place.

Earlier this week, Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison, and Smith offered his take on the situation on his YouTube channel on Friday.

“Karmelo Anthony m*rd*red Austin Metcalf. There is no other way to slice it,” Smith said.” … I would give anything to be able to say something definitively in Karmelo Anthony’s defense. If there was a shred of innocence to the incident itself, I would say so. I don’t want to see another black young man going to jail.”

“But I don’t give a d*mn about what your race or ethnicity is. Just because you’re white and young doesn’t mean you deserve to be m*rd*red. And just because you’re black and young, it doesn’t give you a license to m*rder someone. That’s what happened.”

According to reports, Metcalf’s death was the result of a dispute that escalated between the two rival secondary schools at the track meet. Both Anthony and Metcalf were 17 at the time.

On Wednesday, Stephen A. Smith spoke to NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo and blamed U.S President Donald Trump for the New York Knicks‘ 115-111 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

“I knew it was going to mess up their mojo,” Smith said. “You don’t mess with the mojo when it’s favoring you. Any sports fan will tell you that.”

Trump attended the Knicks vs. Spurs clash at Madison Square Garden on Monday. It was the only one of four games New York has lost in the Finals so far.
