Stellantis taps Mobileye for hands-free driving assist

Stellantis will use technology from Intel’s Mobileye to power its Level 2 hands-free driving features for its vehicle brands, the companies announced Tuesday.

Starting in 2027, Stellantis will begin using Mobileye’s EyeQ system-on-a-chip and a data crowdsourcing program called the Road Experience Management, or REM, which uses real-time data from Mobileye-equipped vehicles to build out a global 3D map. The technology will enable “hands-free, eyes-on driving and intelligent lane keeping on unmarked roads in designated areas and conditions,” Mobileye said. Stellantis, which is the parent company of Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroën, and more, didn’t immediately specify which brands would get the Mobileye systems.

Automakers are racing to add more advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) to their vehicles, which can sometimes improve safety but are mostly seen as a convenience feature for highway driving. The technology is seen as a precursor to more highly automated driving, but is also a potential cash cow, helping drive up subscription and software revenue. Estimates predict ADAS revenue is expected to hit $90 billion over the next decade.

Stellantis already offers a feature called Hands-Free Active Driving Assist in some Jeep and Ram models, but the company hasn’t been as aggressive in pushing the technology as rivals like Ford and GM. Last year, it introduced a new “hands-free, eyes-off” system called STLA AutoDrive for drivers who want to reclaim “valuable time” while stuck in stop-and-go traffic. That system is being developed in partnership with UK-based self-driving company Wayve, with an expected launch date of 2028.

Mobileye said that the addition Stellantis means that the Jerusalem-based company now supplies “five of the world’s ten largest automakers contributing data to REM.” Mobileye notes that REM covers more than 95 percent of public roads in the United States and Europe, pulling in data from over 8 million vehicles that collectively logged 34 billion miles last year. The company reported revenue of $558 million in the first quarter of 2026 — a 27 percent year-over-year jump.
