New York Giants fans were given quite a scare on Saturday after star running back Cam Skattebo took a nasty backflip during his appearance at Fanatics Fest in New York City.

The former Arizona State star made a WWE-inspired entrance to Triple H’s iconic theme song, “The Game,” and attempted a backflip to cap it off. However, he was unable to land it cleanly.

What made the moment even more scary was that Skattebo came down awkwardly on the same leg that required surgery after the injury that cut short his rookie 2025 campaign.

Skattebo’s failed backflip quickly attracted criticism on social media, with many fans questioning whether the stunt was an unnecessary risk for a player still working his way back from a serious leg injury.

Among those to weigh in was TV personality Skip Bayless, who suggested that the Giants should discipline the running back for putting himself in harm’s way.

“If I’m John Harbaugh and the Giants, I fine Skattebo. So season-risking reckless,” Bayless wrote on X on Saturday night.

Despite the frightening moment, Skattebo didn’t appear to get hurt after the stunt. However, the awkward stress placed on his surgically repaired leg was enough to spark concern among fans counting on him to return at full health this season.

So far, the Giants have not expressed any public frustration with the running back’s decision. Their priority remains getting him fully fit for training camp and the regular season.

Should he stay healthy, Skattebo will look to pick up from where he left off and continue the promising development he showed before his rookie season was cut short.

Latest on Cam Skattebo’s injury and expected return timeline

Cam Skattebo‘s rookie season came to an abrupt end in Week 8 of the 2025 campaign when he suffered a serious ankle injury against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The injury ended up being far more severe than a simple ankle sprain. Skattebo also sustained a fractured fibula and a ruptured deltoid ligament. He underwent successful surgery in October to repair the damage caused by the ankle dislocation.

Although his initial recovery timeline was estimated at around six months, Skattebo was still not fully cleared by the time the New York Giants held mandatory minicamp in June, participating primarily in individual drills as he continued his rehabilitation.

Skattebo’s recovery has been closely supervised by head coach John Harbaugh and the Giants’ training staff, who have been pleased with the progress the young running back has made. However, Skattebo has said he is still working his way back to full fitness.

All signs point to him being ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season. He is expected to participate when training camp begins, although the Giants are likely to manage his workload carefully before gradually increasing his involvement.
