The hotly-anticipated Rivian R2 is nearly upon us, and Rivian just gave everyone a single date to focus on: June 9.
Rivian has announced that the “official launch” of the R2 is less than two weeks away, with the first big salvo of order invites, customer deliveries, and demo drives all starting on that day.
It was announced via a Rivian Story blog post, which gives the specifics of what to expect on that day.
The R2 configurator has already been open for a couple weeks, but what will happen on June 9th is the first batches of invites for orders will be sent out. This allows you to change your configuration into a firm order, which will then be built and delivered within the subsequent 2-6 weeks.
Those order invites will be sent out based on a variety of factors – the main factors are when you reserved the R2 and how close you live to a Rivian Service + Demo Center. The earlier and closer you are, the earlier you’ll get your order invite.

Additionally, current R1 owners will tend to get accelerated delivery, and those with expiring leases will have their deliveries timed based on that. If you have a Rivian lease, this is already in Rivian’s system, but if you have another car, you need to put your lease information into your Rivian Account.
R1 owners won’t automatically go before everyone else, though – invites will be mixed in among non-owners.
Those invites will go out by email, so make sure your email address is correct and your spam filters have Rivian emails unblocked before then.
Also, deliveries will be based on what models are ordered. The Launch Package goes first, then Premium in late 2026 and Standard early next year.
In addition, June 9 will be the start of public demo drives. While some media have already driven the car, drives have not been available to the general public just yet. But R2s should start appearing at Rivian Spaces on June 9, and that’s when customers can check out the car in person and drives will begin.
However, you won’t be able to book those drives until June 9 – so no sense in calling the local Rivian store now, because they won’t be able to sign you up until then.
