ONE Championship: “Far from my best”

Former WBC Muay Thai world champion George Jarvis just delivered one of the most explosive knockout performances of the year. The British star, however, is convinced he can do far worse to the lightweight Muay Thai division.

The 25-year-old stopped Thai veteran Rungrawee “Legatron” Sitsongpeenong via a second-round KO at the 1:59 mark of the frame in the headline attraction of ONE Fight Night 44 on Prime Video.

The card was broadcast live in U.S. primetime from Bangkok’s legendary Lumpinee Stadium on Friday, June 26.

With the 29th win of his career in tow and another highlight-reel win over the Sitsongpeenong man, George Jarvis has once again placed his name inside the conversation for a rematch with two-sport king Regian Eersel for the ONE lightweight Muay Thai world title.

Despite the kind of performance most fighters would celebrate for weeks, the Lumpini Crawley man has refused to overstate his work. The Englishman has graded himself honestly – and the rest of the division should be very, very worried.

“No, it’s not my best. It’s far from my best. I’ll give this a four or five out of 10. Yeah, I won by knockout, but there are still a lot of things that I need to work on,” George Jarvis told ONE Championship during a post-fight interview, before adding why he’s not making much of the win.

“If it were a 10 out of 10, then I’d be knocking him out in 10 seconds. So, there is no finished product yet. I’m still learning. I’m still trying to explore everything we do inside training into the fight.”

George Jarvis’ hunger to improve could spell disaster for the rest of the lightweight Muay Thai division

George Jarvis clearly prefers not to bite off more than he can chew. At the same time, he refuses to get above himself. That kind of brutal honesty is exactly the trait that turns dangerous prospects into world champions.

Plenty of fighters allow career-defining knockouts to inflate their self-assessment – Jarvis, instead, has dismissed his own work as a five out of 10 and openly committed to climbing even higher.

With a 29-5 record, the finishing power that has stopped Rungrawee twice over, and the discipline to keep growing every camp, the Englishman has every weapon needed to reclaim a shot at Eersel’s gold. And next time, he intends to leave zero doubt.
