Colombia fans on social media are not happy with Luis Suarez getting another chance at the FIFA World Cup over Cucho Hernandez. Many believe the forward should not have started vs Switzerland.
Camilo Vargas keeps his place in the starting XI, while Daniel Muñoz and Johan Mojica are the fullbacks. Davinson Sanchez and Jhon Lucumi are the centre-back pairing once again.
Thanks for the submission!
Gustavo Puerta starts as a midfielder once again, while Jefferson Lerma plays in the pivot with Jhon Arias on his right. James Rodriguez is on the right wing today, but he might drift in and play in the #10 role as the match goes on.
Luis Diaz starts on the left-wing as expected, but it is the inclusion of Suarez that has raised questions. Many posted:
Colombia coach Nestor Lorenzo spoke about of the match, and said:
“I believe it is key for us to have those types of players, players who interpret the game with simplicity, and that they know how to behave. They grasp the game, they understand the game. On top of the fact that they have the physical and technical capacity that allows for improved versatility, they understand the game. They understand the different moments, and it enables the team to grow. I think we have many players of this sort who are highly versatile.”
Colombia are yet to concede a goal in the FIFA World Cup 2026 since the first game, when they won 3-1 vs Uzbekistan.
Colombia coach Nestor Lorenzo questions FIFA World Cup travel
Colombia coach Nestor Lorenzo spoke about the travel of his squad, saying that they have been trying to best to manage things. He has questioned why they are the only side doing so much travel and said:
“It’s not a good thing to travel so much. The whole time changes, weather changes, because we play at high altitudes and humidity, and in dry weather too. We’re pretty much exposed to all sorts of changes. We knew it would be this way.”
“The World Cup is being held in three countries in such a big continent. It could have happened to anybody, and it has happened to us. We just need to accept the situation, to try to work it out on a day-by-day basis, and give our best performance.”
Colombia defeated Ghana in the Round of 32 and will face Argentina in the quarterfinals if they manage to beat Switzerland today.
