Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. However, the four-time MVP has announced that the 2026 season with the Steelers will be his last in the NFL.
Rodgers, who is returning for his 22nd NFL season, has racked up several accolades in more than two decades in the league. However, NFL analyst Mike Wilbon doesn’t like the idea of Rodgers getting “relevance” after announcing his retirement decision.
Thanks for the submission!
“His career is one of the great careers in NFL history, four MVPs,” Wilbon said on ‘First Take.’ “I know it only resulted in one Super Bowl championship and we tend to just forget people. The more years we go over, he’s sad if we forget Aaron Rodgers in 10 years. People act like John Elway didn’t play the game. … We don’t need to exaggerate it.

“He had a great career that’s going to result in the wearing of a gold jacket in the Hall of Fame as should be. That’s set aside. This notion that he and the Steelers are relevant, to what? Not even in their own division. They are gonna be the third team in their own division behind Baltimore for sure and likely Cincinnati. I’m not sure I’m buying that, but okay, it’s not relevant anymore.”

Although Wilbon acknowledged Rodgers’ Hall of Fame-worthy resume, the NFL analyst dismissed the idea that the veteran quarterback is still playing at the same level.
“At this stage, he is not LeBron James. He’s not Tom Brady. We don’t need to overstate what he is now to appreciate what he has been for all these.”

NFL insider Mike Florio skeptical about Aaron Rodgers’ retirement announcement
Aaron Rodgers’ decision to announce his retirement plans a few days after signing a one-year contract with the Steelers has surprised many, including NFL insider Mike Florio.
“I believe that he believes it when he says it,” Florio said. “2027 is a different year. We don’t know how he’ll feel based on how things go this year… that sets up a farewell tour.
“It’s going to be all about Aaron Rodgers everywhere the Steelers go… he could have left things vague, and he usually does leave things vague. That’s what’s out of character for him. He’s given up certainty. It is going to be his last year.”
