NEW DELHI: PM Narendra Modi joined Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in inaugurating the Prambanan temple compound restoration and conservation project – a Unesco world heritage – marking yet another site with India’s civilisational imprint which his govt has helped revive in a foreign country.“This initiative is a shining example of the enduring civilisational bonds between India and Indonesia, rooted in a shared heritage that has connected our people for centuries,” Modi said. Preserving such heritage is about safeguarding the traditions that continue to inspire generations, he said, adding that India is privileged to partner with Indonesia in this endeavour.With the governing BJP making it a point to champion India’s cultural legacy at home and abroad, govt has partnered with several countries, including Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Laos, to renovate and rebuild their ancient sites with common civilisational links with India.In Bangladesh, examples include Ramna Kali temple, which was destroyed in 1971, Joy Kali Mata temple, Anandomoyee Kali Mata Mandir and Ramakrishna temple, preserving important centres of Hindu faith, officials noted. In Vietnam, Modi govt restored Unesco-listed ‘MySon Sanctuary’, one of Southeast Asia’s most significant Shaivite temple complexes and the religious centre of the ancient Champa Kingdom.India signed MoU with Myanmar to restore earthquake-damaged monuments in the Unesco-listed Bagan Archaeological Zone and undertook restoration of 12 historic pagodas through the ASI. It also completed restoration of the historic Ananda temple.
