Did you know that complimentary plane blankets—those sad, tissue-thin excuses for fabric—get reused? That’s reason enough to bring your own blanket on the plane, especially if you, like me, run cold on flights. When I got word that the runway-worthy blanket brand Lola released a travel-size version of its beloved faux-fur blanket (40 x 48 inches), I knew I had to give it a go on a cross-country flight, which just so happened to occur on the day I received it.
The release comes as a collaboration with Dagne Dover, a Traveler-favorite brand known for its functional neoprene bags. The Lola x Dagne Dover limited-edition bundle, retailing for $375, features both a Lola travel blanket and Dagne Dover’s Landon Carryall in the medium size, “designed for the modern traveler,” the Lola website reads. The partnership is a no-brainer, given the fact that both brands specialize in cutting-edge fabrics that bridge the gap between style and comfort. Four neutral colorways set the tone for the collection; I got mine in the jet-black Onyx.
First thing’s first: The best-selling Landon Carryall, a favorite among my fellow editors. I took the Landon straight from the box to the airport, so all of its fabulous hidden features revealed themselves to me in real time. As I was bringing both a carry-on suitcase and personal item on the plane, I had to quickly stuff my breakfast bag inside the Landon while boarding at the gate. Imagine my surprise, then, when the sides magically unsnapped, revealing a ton of extra room. In addition to the Lola blanket, I had enough space for my laptop, small cosmetic purse, water bottle, and over-the-ear headphones. The Landon Carryall is an ideal size for a personal item on the plane, a gym bag, or a duffel for weekend trips, making it one of the most versatile travel bags I own. Now on to the blanket. In the name of science, I sat in the coldest seat in the house—the famously frigid exit row. When I pulled the blanket out of its packaging, I couldn’t believe just how soft it was. It’s synthetic, yes, but it feels ultra-luxe and weighted—each Lola is hand-sewn, stain-resistant, double-hemmed, machine washable, and shed-free. The blanket was the perfect size for my body, covering me up without spilling, in an unsanitary fashion, onto the plane floor. Not an inch of me was cold.
