
Syria said on July 16 it had foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon by seizing a shipment that included missiles at its border with Iraq. It comes after US President Donald Trump floated the idea of Syria intervening in Lebanon against the armed groupn, and amid talks between Beirut and Tel Aviv in Rome over the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the south of Lebanon.
