This year as many as 7,10,363 students had registered for the exams from 5,174 colleges across the state. This number includes 6,46,801 first-time candidates, 50,540 repeaters, and 13,022 private candidates. The Karnataka 2nd PUC exams 2026 were conducted from February 28 to March 17, 2026. KSEAB had set up 1,217 examination centres throughout the state. Registration numbers by stream were: 2,92,645 in Science, 2,11,174 in Commerce, and 1,42,982 in Arts.
The Karnataka School Examination and Assessment Board (KSEAB) has restructured the examination process, now featuring three annual exams (PUC exam 1, 2, and 3). Taking the first exam is mandatory for all students, but the subsequent two exams are optional, offering students a chance to improve their initial scores. The highest score achieved across the attempts will be the one recorded as the final grade. Students are permitted to retake any subject from the first exam during the later exams.
The evaluation system is based on an 80+20 model, with 80 marks dedicated to the written examination and 20 marks allocated for internal assessment. The board has also reduced the minimum passing threshold from 35 per cent to 30 per cent. To successfully pass a subject, a student must score at least 30 marks, which is a combination of the written and practical/internal scores. Furthermore, an overall aggregate of 33 per cent is required, that is 198 marks out of a possible 600.
