    Karan Sharma elevated as Avendus’ I Banking head

    Mizuho Securities -owned Avendus Group has elevated Karan Sharma to Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking, it said on Monday. Karan assumes leadership of the business from Gaurav Deepak, Co-founder and CEO at Avendus Group.

    In this new mandate, Karan will set the strategic direction of the overall investment banking business, drive its growth priorities and build on its institutional capabilities for the future, it said.

    Over the last 15 years at Avendus, Karan has played a key role in building the firm’s digital and technology practice, working closely with founders and investors across India’s technology landscape.

    “I am grateful for the opportunity to lead Avendus’ Investment Banking business at such an exciting stage of its journey,” said Karan Sharma, Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking, Avendus Capital. “As we look ahead, my focus will be on strengthening client partnerships, deepening our sector expertise and reinforcing Avendus’ position as the trusted advisor to India’s most ambitious businesses.”

    Gaurav Deepak, Co-founder and CEO, Avendus Group said, “With Karan taking on this responsibility, I will be able to focus more fully on the firm’s broader strategic priorities, deepen engagement with our clients, and help shape the next phase of growth for Avendus,” he added.

    In December, Japanese giant Mizuho Securities (part of the Mizuho Financial Group) acquired a controlling stake of over 60% in Avendus Capital. The strategic deal values Avendus at approximately $520 million (₹4,700 crore).
