The Buffalo Bills have revamped the team this offseason to help Josh Allen on the field. They made several additions to strengthen the defense. In March, the Bills signed veteran safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to a one-year, $6 million deal.

Allen got to go against Johnson during the team’s first minicamp practice. While speaking with the media during the post-practice presser on Tuesday, the quarterback had high praise for the safety.

“It’s been awesome,” Allen said. “He’s a competitor. He’s the loudest guy in the room at all times. He’s a constant, constant competitor and nothing he does is half speed. He does it full speed.

“And to have a guy like that in your locker room, pushing your guys and forcing them to compete even harder, those guys are gems. And I think ever team needs that type of a guy.”

C.J. Gardner-Johnson began his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints in 2019. He made a name for himself during the 2022 season with the Philadelphia Eagles. He put up 67 tackles and six interceptions and won Super Bowl LIX.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson is expected to be on the starting lineup in the secondary alongside Cole Bishop, who impressed with his performance last season. In addition, the Bills also signed former Bengals safety Geno Stone to a one-year deal.

The Bills also revamped the offense to provide Josh Allen with more help on the gridiron. They acquired wide receiver D.J. Moore in a trade with the Bears. The team also promoted former offensive coordinator Joe Brady as the new coach after firing Sean McDermott and brought in Pete Carmichael to take over as the new OC.

Josh Allen breaks the silence on building chemistry with DJ Moore

Over the past few seasons, Josh Allen has been carrying the Bills’ offense on his back. Last season, the 2024 NFL MVP recorded 3,688 yards and 25 TDs passing, along with 579 yards and 14 TDs rushing.

With the addition of DJ Moore this offseason, the quarterback is expected to have some help on the offense. On Tuesday, Allen provided an update on getting comfortable with the new wide receiver.

“Still working on it,” Allen said. “Still working on it with everybody. There’s just different nuances that some guys have in their body language. He’s as smooth of a football player as I’ve ever been around.

“I’m lucky to come to work and have the guys that we do, especially him going out there. He works extremely hard and it’s fun to be out there with him.”

The Panthers drafted DJ Moore with the No. 24 pick in 2018. In 2023, he was traded to the Bears, where he signed a four-year, $110 million extension in 2024. Last season, Moore recorded 682 yards on 50 receptions and six touchdowns while helping his team to the divisional round of the playoffs.
