Jaxson Dart and Abdul Carter sparked a potentially divisive offseason controversy for the New York Giants in May. However, head coach John Harbaugh believes that the team is past that and the credit belongs to his players.
The dispute between the quarterback and edge rusher became a lesson in building team culture ahead of training camp. The issue surfaced in May after Carter publicly criticized Dart for introducing President Donald Trump at a rally in New York.
Thanks for the submission!
Speaking on ‘The Dominique Foxworth Show,’ Harbaugh explained how the team crawled it’s way back from the incident.

“I think that emotional intelligence that you’re talking about, it takes everybody having a mindset that we are in here to get out and play well together,” Harbaugh said. (06:41)

He believes that conversations around Dart and Carter were “one little piece of that journey.” Talking about the controversy as a challenge, Harbaugh said,
“One-hundred percent, yes, truly an opportunity. This is not the first time we’re going to be thrown into this very thing, the political, social discourse. So we have to have conversations… in a way that respects one another.”
The former Ravens coach then revealed why the situation ended so smoothly.
“Really, honestly, Dominique, I didn’t have to do anything. I didn’t have to say anything, really. The players said it. They laid the ground rules down.”
The Giants ae set to begin training camp later this month with rookies reporting July 23 and veterans arriving July 28.
Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart spoke as “men”
Dart’s appearance alongside Trump gave way to all kinds of NFL storylines, especially in the offseason. While Carter called out Dart on X immediately after the Giants QB introduced the President, the linebacker later deleted the tweet.
He then addressed the situation a few days later with a brief update.
“Me & JD6 are good! We spoke earlier as Men,” Carter posted. “Yall can keep yall narratives.”
It’ll be interesting to see during the 2026 NFL season whether all is really well between Dart and Carter, or if it’s just for show.
