ONE interim featherweight Muay Thai world champion “King of the North” Nico Carrillo of Scotland has said his love for road work is one of the biggest keys to his success.

Carrillo thrives in taking his runners onto dirt paths, his faithful companion by his side, pushing himself to the absolute limit.

The “King of the North” believes it’s not just a physical exercise, but also a mental one that allows him to fortify his mind.

In a recent interview with ONE Championship, Carrillo talked about how running has helped turn him into the fighter he is today:

“For fight camps, it’s the perfect fuel to add to your game. It’s another way to get uncomfortable, and it teaches your body to overcome discomfort. It gives me the edge, and I’m doing it to set a very high standard for myself.”

Needless to say, one look at Carrillo’s monster tree-trunk-like calves and you already know he’s dominating the trails as much as he dominates his opponents in the ring.

Nico Carrillo reveals his running routine during intense training camps: “I just know what to do and when to do it”

“King of the North” Nico Carrillo has his running game down to a science.

The 27-year-old interim featherweight Muay Thai king said it’s because of his intense road work training that he comes into his fights in the best shape possible:

“During the first few weeks of camp, I do my threshold running every Monday. It is one-kilometer repeats. It’s the best way to build the engine. And then, I will stop doing that as I get closer to the fight.

“I just have so much experience running, and I know what helps with my stamina, which ones help you stay explosive, which ones develop more speed. There’s this and that. So, I just know what to do and when to do it.”

Stay tuned to Sportskeeda MMA for all the latest news and updates surrounding Nico Carrillo’s next fight.
