Tony DeAngelo has re-signed with the New York Islanders. However, it seems like the news of his extension didn’t come to light in the manner he would have preferred. DeAngelo also had a hilarious exchange with NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman about the same.

On X, Friedman wrote a tweet in which he mentioned that DeAngelo has resigned with the Islanders. Friedman revealed that the 30-year-old agreed to a 2-year, $4.5 million contract. While Friedman’s tweet quickly went viral among the NHL fandom, DeAngelo also took note of it.

Tony DeAngelo quote-tweeted Friedman’s tweet and dropped a hilarious reaction. He wrote:

“Cmon, I was supposed to be the insider on this one Fridge..”

You can check DeAngelo’s reaction in the tweet below:

Tony DeAngelo’s contract extension with the New York Islanders comes after a decent individual season with the Islanders. While DeAngelo and the Islanders did not make the playoffs, the defenseman played 76 games, in which he scored 5 goals with 30 assists and 35 points.

Tony DeAngelo reacted to re-signing with the New York Islanders

After the New York Islanders officially announced DeAngelo’s re-signing on their social media, the defenseman also released a statement. On his personal Instagram account, DeAngelo uploaded a photo of himself on the rink in an Islanders jersey.

In the caption of the post, DeAngelo wrote a statement which described his emotions upon re-signing with the Islanders. DeAngelo also expressed his gratitude to the organization and the fans.

“2️⃣ more years on Long Island. Very grateful to the @nyislanders organization & fans. #LGI,” DeAngelo wrote.

You can check DeAngelo’s Instagram post below:

Tony DeAngelo is one of the most experienced players in the National Hockey League. While DeAngelo was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, he eventually made his league debut in 2016 for the Arizona Coyotes, a team that is inactive.

Following his stint with the Coyotes, DeAngelo played for the New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, and the Philadelphia Flyers. While he returned to the Hurricanes on a one-year deal in 2023, he moved to SKA Saint Petersburg on a one-year deal in 2024.

Following the termination of his contract due to family reasons in 2025, DeAngelo was signed by the New York Islanders on a one-year deal for the 2025-26 season.
