If Your Kindle Travels As Much as You Do, These Protective Covers Will Keep it Safe

As much as I love reading on vacation (what’s better than a good book on the beach?), I’ve always despised how much room even one paperback can take up in my bag. This all changed a few years ago when someone gifted me a Kindle for Christmas. Since then, I haven’t had to worry about choosing just one book or sacrificing precious carry-on space. Now when I travel, I bring a catalog of books with me all over the world, whether I’m relaxing at a wellness spa in Banff or lounging under the Tuscan sun. Countless trips later, near and far, it’s safe to say my Kindle is pretty well-traveled. It was about time I finally got my trusted Kindle a case. After all, crowded airports, buzzy cafes, and kid-friendly hotel pools aren’t the safest places for my favorite device. Read on for more information on my favorite case, as well as recommendations from other readers on the Traveler team.

    In this article:

    My top choice:

    Casely

    Sunday Best Kindle case

A few months ago, I ordered a pink plaid Kindle cover from Casely. Right away I wondered how I ever traveled without a case on my Kindle. The cover is snug-fitting, sleek-feeling, and completely protective over my e-reader. Made of Saffiano leatherette material, the cover has a smooth, satin finish that looks polished enough to hold poolside at a laid-back Hamptons hotel. It’s plenty durable while still lightweight. I worried that adding a bulky case would make my Kindle feel a lot heavier in my bag, but this one from Casely is practically weightless. I no longer fear accidental drops, splashes, or scratches. I used to nervously slip my Kindle inside my overstuffed personal item on the plane, just hoping nothing crushed it. Now I freely toss it anywhere, knowing my case is keeping it safe. From already full weekender bags and backpacks to my everyday work tote, I love knowing my Kindle is secure in any and every travel bag.

My Kindle cover has also improved my actual reading experience. The back of the case features an elastic hand strap that lets me hold the device comfortably with one hand—no gripping required. The front cover automatically wakes up the Kindle upon opening, and puts it to sleep once closed. Plus, the front cover folds completely flat against the back, so I can truly relax and read in peace.

I also can’t resist calling out its good looks. Having a cute case on my Kindle makes me even more excited to reach for it and read—kind of like getting a boost of motivation to work out after buying a new activewear set. Casely’s pretty pale pink cover called my name, but you can choose from all sorts of patterns and prints inspired by Nantucket’s charming cottages, adventures in the wild wild west, and even the New York Knicks. The case fits my 7″ Kindle Paperwhite, but Casely also offers covers designed to fit the 7″ Kindle Coversoft, the 6.8″ Kindle Paperwhite, and the 6″ Kindle.
