“I’d love to see him in an Indian shirt in the UK summer”

Former England pacer Steve Finn expressed his wish to watch 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Indian jersey in the upcoming tour of the UK. The Men in Blue will play two T20Is against Ireland at the end of June, followed by five T20Is against England from July 1 to 11.

Suryavanshi set the IPL 2026 season on fire with his incredible stroke-making and remarkable consistency. The southpaw finished as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 776 runs at an average of 48.50 and a strike rate of 237.30 in 16 outings.

Talking about Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s extraordinary performances in IPL 2026, Finn said on the For the Love of Cricket YouTube channel (15:10):

“I would love to see him in an Indian shirt in the UK summer. The problem is India is the world champions, and it’ll be an incredibly tough call on those opening the batting now. Yet, whoever he replaces, he would make the team better.”

    He continued:

“The question entering this season was if he could do it again and be consistent. The most staggering thing is that he struck at 236 across 700+ runs against the best bowlers in the world. To sustain that for a full season as a 15-year-old is mind-blowing. He was the story of this IPL. And people say the yorker is his lone weakness. But that’s so tough to execute with the new ball that if that’s your only weakness, you would almost take that.”

Suryavanshi was also adjudged the Player of the tournament in IPL 2026 in only his second IPL season.

“He might as well have stayed put on the stage” – Steve Finn on Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Steve Finn hilariously stated that Vaibhav Suryavanshi could have remained on stage throughout the IPL 2026 post-final awards ceremony, considering how many he bagged. The teenage sensation took away most of the prestigious trophies, following his breathtaking performances during the season.

“He stole the show this IPL. He might as well have stayed put on the stage, as he must have gotten nine awards. He even got a car, and he’s 15. So I am not sure if he’s even allowed to drive. I can’t imagine he’ll be struggling to buy a car or be given a car in the next three years. It’ll be interesting to see what he does with that,” said Finn (via the aforementioned source).

Suryavanshi’s heroics also had a massive impact on the team as the Rajasthan Royals (RR) qualified for the playoffs and won the Eliminator against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). The youngster also displayed his big-game prowess with a pair of 90s in the Eliminator and Qualifier 2.
