    Spain captain Rodri has shared a message to the world after leading his country to their second FIFA World Cup title. The Manchester City man was pivotal as La Roja claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Argentina to end their reign as champions of the world.

    Rodri spoke to reporters after the game and took the opportunity to advise up-and-coming young footballers to never let setbacks define their careers. He told them to believe that even after setbacks, they can always come back to their previous level.

    “I hope my story will be taken by young players as an example; even when your career goes down, you can always come back”, he said.

    Rodri’s words were in reference to his horrific knee injury from the 2024-25 season, shortly after he won the Player of the Tournament award at Euro 2024. He ruptured his ACL and damaged his meniscus in a Premier League clash against Arsenal, leaving him sidelined for around eight months.

    The 30-year-old Manchester City man struggled upon his return to fitness in May 2025, and only found his best form in the 2025-26 injuries. Despite minor injury troubles during the season, the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner was named as captain of Spain’s FIFA World Cup squad.

    He impressed greatly in the middle of the park for La Roja, helping them on their way to a second FIFA World Cup crown. His efforts earned him the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player at the end of the final.

    Spain claimed a narrow 1-0 win over Argentina to become FIFA World Cup winners for the first time since 2010. La Roja successfully dethroned their South American rivals, winning their second World Cup final in as many attempts.

    Argentina proved a tough nut to crack for most of the final in New York as they kept their opposition out without offering anything in attack. Ferran Torres lashed home the winner in the second half of extra-time, handing his side a timely win. The win meant that Spain extended their unbeaten run to 38 games, a record for the longest unbeaten international run in European history.

    Spain also became the first country in history to hold the FIFA World Cup in the men’s and women’s games. Their female national team won the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, and are set to defend the title next summer.
