Hyundai Motor India is targeting one million cumulative connected car sales by 2027, as the automaker looks to accelerate the adoption of connected and software-led vehicle technologies in the country.

The company said on Monday that more than 800,000 Hyundai connected cars are already on Indian roads, with connected vehicle penetration across its portfolio rising five-fold from 4% in 2019 to 20% in 2026.

Hyundai introduced its Bluelink connected car platform in India in 2019 with the launch of the Venue, which the company describes as the country’s first OEM-fitted connected SUV. Since then, it has expanded connected features across models including the Creta, Venue and i20.

Hyundai said it is also targeting more than two million cumulative connected car sales by 2030.

The company’s Bluelink platform offers more than 70 features spanning safety, security and convenience. These include remote vehicle monitoring, vehicle health diagnostics, location tracking, trip history, remote commands, Hyundai Pay-enabled in-car payments, Digital Key, Digital Passport, Remote Immobilizer and Home-to-Car Connectivity.

Bluelink also supports more than 450 AI-powered voice commands across five languages, according to the company.Hyundai said its connected mobility strategy is increasingly centred on software-defined vehicles and over-the-air technology, allowing vehicles to receive software updates and new capabilities after purchase.

The company’s connected technology roadmap includes the introduction of OTA map updates with the i20 in 2020, next-generation Audio Video Navigation Telematics technology in 2022 and the Connected Car Navigation Cockpit, or ccNC, in 2025. The latter also introduced controller OTA update capability, marking a further step in Hyundai’s software-defined vehicle roadmap for India.

    Focus on safety

Hyundai said its connected technology has also been used in emergency situations, with Bluelink assisting more than 500,000 motorists through SOS and roadside assistance services.

The company said the system has supported around 15,000 crash-notification interventions and assisted law-enforcement agencies in vehicle tracing and recovery efforts.

Other features, including Driving Score and Digital Passport, are aimed at helping customers monitor driving behaviour and vehicle care through personalised insights and recommendations.

Hyundai said its upcoming mass-market electric SUV will offer next-generation connected car technology as standard across all variants, further integrating its connected mobility and electric vehicle strategies.
