Among all the secrets in Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph, Darkest Depths may be one of the most challenging ones to complete alone. It’s in the Exotic missions tab, among the new list of challenges, and it requires you to complete the entire Oblation mission series at Master difficulty.
However, to unlock it, you first need to complete all Oblation Exotic missions on normal difficulty and find the altar that lets you launch the mission on Oblation difficulty. Those who played the Shadowkeep expansion have probably visited the Hive altar in the Catacombs, but for New Lights in Destiny 2, this guide will show exactly where to go.
How to unlock Master Oblation difficulty for Darkest Depths Triumph in Destiny 2

As mentioned, you have to finish all three Oblation Exotic missions first. It will reward you with Cull’s Shadow Exotic weapon and all four of its Catalysts. We recommend doing them in one go, but you can continue at your own pace. Once done, you can unlock the Master difficulty for the mission.

Make your way inside Hellmouth on the Moon. Doesn’t really matter where you land, as you can reach there from any landing zone. In this guide, we’re starting from Sorrow’s Harbor. Use your Sparrow to travel inside the Hellmouth as shown in the image above.

Once inside, follow the hallways until you reach the Gatehouse. From there, you need to reach another hallway with red lights outside leading to a room full of enemies. You can take them out, or ignore them and use the large door leading deeper inside.

The cave will lead you into another room, which you can also ignore, and look for a small door with a dead Cabal soldier. It’ll lead you into a giant underground space, with a door leading to the next floor of the Hellmouth.

Once you’re in the large hall, head towards the middle and look for a cracked wall on your right. Even if you entered Hellmouth from a different landing zone, you’ll ultimately end up in this room.

Upon entering the crack in the wall, you’ll find stairs leading down towards a completely dark room filled with enemies. Keep following the light until you reach a blocked door near a lantern.

Stand on the Ritual plate for a few seconds to unlock the door and go deeper inside. Once again, keep following the faint light, and you’ll come across another door. This one will unlock as soon as you get close, revealing the final stretch.

Past the second door are the Hive catacombs. You can take the burrowed tunnels or go aboveground; both paths will ultimately lead you to a large open area with a massive ship from the Black Fleet. If you feel lost, pressing Tab will show you the marker for an Exotic mission to follow.

Upon reaching the open area, step onto the ritual plate to summon the bridge, then make your way to the altar in the middle. Interact with the Tome to start the Oblation Exotic mission on Master difficulty. Once you start the mission, you can quit right after, and it’ll be available in the Director for you to start from the Orbit.
As mentioned, completing the missions will unlock an exclusive Ship and the Darkest Depths Triumph in Destiny 2. However, if you complete the missions at this difficulty within 30 minutes, you’ll also receive an exclusive emblem.
