Buried Secrets is the third and final mission of the free new questline added with the Assassin’s Creed Shadows title update 1.1.11. It starts after completing the Double-Crossed quest. As Naoe and Rufino head inside the Kassandra vault cave, they need to reach the Black Cross’ location. With complicated elevations and difficult boss fights, finishing the mission can be a bit tricky. That said, completing it unlocks the new end-game activity, Domains.
Nevertheless, here are the details on how to pursue the Buried Secrets quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Buried Secrets quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Walkthrough
Reach the Black Cross
After finishing both Black Tides and Double-Crossed, the Buried Secrets quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows starts with Naoe and Rufino looking for the Black Cross inside the Kassandra vault cave.
Proceed left, continue south, and you will find a blocked pathway at the end. Wait for Rufino to arrive, then step together onto the glowing tiles on the ground to open the gate.
In the next segment, you need to take the left path. Jump across the gaps to reach a platform with another glowing tile. Step on it to create a path for Rufino to continue ahead. However, the door in front of him will be locked initially.
To unlock it, keep proceeding to the left using the ledges, jump to the opposite side’s ledge (press the jump button without any directional input), and reach the subsequent platform. From there, grab the ledge on the left, move upwards, and you will find a glowing tile at the top. Step onto it to unlock the door for Rufino.
Next, access the subsequent pathway by stepping onto the tiles together. After that, continue forward to encounter Nirmala. Jump over the rock and proceed ahead using the covers in the area. However, DO NOT step on the glowing tiles here, as they will trigger numerous spears to fall from above within a circular area.
Climb the platforms on the right side to reach the upper section. Afterward, grab the glowing ledges and proceed upwards. Make sure you hold onto the ledges that have covers ahead, which will block Nirmala’s ranged attacks.
When you’re hanging on the highest ledge on the left side, jump to the opposite side’s ledge (press the jump button without any directional input). Drop down and grab the ledge below (hold circle/B/Left Ctrl and press the jump button while falling). Keep moving forward towards Nirmala’s location.
When she runs away, keep chasing her to find a glowing bridge ahead. As you try to cross it, it will disappear mid-way, and you will fall to the ground. Avoid the glowing tiles on the ground and continue upwards. After a while, you will find a floating glowing platform ahead. Jump onto it, then fall to the ground again.
Next, head west, step onto the glowing tile to unlock the pathway, and continue upwards. After moving to the end, proceed north by jumping across the gaps. Keep using the glowing ledges to reach the objective marker. Before going downwards, make sure to refill the Ration count nearby, as the next segment features difficult boss fights. Slide down to start the battle against Nirmala.

Kill the Black Cross
The boss fight against Nirmala can become easier if you utilize the glowing tiles in the area. Simply run near the tile and wait for her to come towards you. Quickly step over the tile and run away, so that falling spears deal damage to Nirmala. As the tiles become usable after a short cooldown, you can use this tactic repeatedly to deplete her health bar.
When Nirmala’s health reaches around 40 percent, Eamon joins the fight. You can use the same method to damage them with the tiles. I mostly focused on Nirmala during the fight and managed to deplete her health bar to zero, which triggered a cutscene.
When it ends, Yasuke and Naoe battle against the final form of Eamon Hathaway. The fight is quite straightforward, and you can easily overwhelm the opponent with skills and heavy attacks. The tiles are there as well.
When he’s defeated, go through the cutscenes to complete the Buried Secrets quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It also marks the end of the newly added storyline.
Interestingly, at the end of the last cutscene, something called “MOD” tells you about the newly unlocked end-game feature, Domains. You can find it on the objective board.
