Here Are Some Of The Biggest Changes On The New Chevy Bolt

The current Ultium-based Chevy Bolt isn’t going to last long, with its planned discontinuation happening in Summer 2027. However, while it’s here, it’s one of the more intriguing affordable EV options and one that customers should keep their eyes on. There’s some understandable confusion surrounding the Bolt, though, and this new video from Ever nicely breaks down some of the biggest and most impactful changes made to this 2027 model for anyone interested in buying one.

Chevy was originally going to discontinue the Bolt after 2023. However, both internal and external pressure led GM to reopen the Bolt’s file. Unfortunately, the Bolt that customers knew in 2023 just wasn’t gonna cut it among its more modern peers. GM had to refresh it but keep it cheap. So it swapped out its old battery for a new, cheaper battery pack, gave it a new interior with upgraded tech, and freshened up its looks a bit. Despite the penny pinching, the results are actually pretty impressive.

The 2027 Chevy Bolt only comes in EUV crossover shape, which was the more practical, more popular option anyway. It looks mostly the same but it has new split headlights, new taillights, and a lot of black plastic. Where it’s visually changed most is inside, where it has a heavily revised cabin with GM’s latest tech. While it might feel familiar, the new Bolt’s dashboard and tech are entirely new. Its infotainment screen and digital gauge cluster are basically the same as you’ll find in every other GM EV, though.

Don’t let its looks fool you, though, this new Bolt is entirely different where it matters most: under the skin. The battery is all-new, with lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells instead of nickel-magnanese-cobalt (NMC), and while the 65 kWh capacity is the same, the new model has more range. The new Bolt has 262 miles of range, versus the old EUV’s 247 miles. It’s still front-wheel drive, with about the same power, now at 210 horsepower instead of 200. However, the new motor loses a ton of torque, dropping from 266 lb-ft to 169 lb-ft. Chevy used some clever final drive trickery to actually improve power delivery. Because of the shorter final drive gear, the new Bolt actually makes more torque to the wheels than the old one.

There are a few other worthwhile changes, so if you’re a potential buyer you should check out Ever’s video. But the new Bolt, despite being similar looking to the old one, is still worth your consideration even if it won’t be on sale in a year’s time.
