In a major step towards its ‘Drug Free Gujarat’ campaign, the Gujarat Government has approved the establishment of 15-bed de-addiction centres in all 34 district hospitals, with an administrative sanction of ₹14.90 crore for the 2026-27 financial year.
The decision aims to make treatment and rehabilitation services accessible across the State. People struggling with substance addiction, who previously had to travel to larger cities for specialised care, will now be able to access treatment, counselling and rehabilitation within their own districts.
According to the government, each centre will provide scientific detoxification, de-addiction therapy, mental healthcare, family counselling and rehabilitation services. Both inpatient (IPD) and outpatient (OPD) facilities will be available, with care provided by teams comprising doctors, nurses, counsellors, psychologists and other trained professionals.
To ensure transparency, medical equipment for the centres will be procured through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal. The government said implementation of the scheme will also be monitored through regular reviews, social audits and third-party verification.
The State government said the initiative complements its ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade while expanding treatment and rehabilitation facilities for those affected by substance abuse. It added that the centres are expected to improve access to timely care, ease the financial and emotional burden on families and support the goal of creating a drug-free Gujarat.
