GTA 6 might have encountered more than 1,000,000 bugs during its development. This estimate was based on the previous Rockstar Games titles’ bug count during their development, which was revealed by a former employee. Though the American company will probably never reveal such details in public, the fanbase is now trying to find any and all bizarre statistics related to it.
Here are more details about how GTA 6 development bugs were estimated by a fan.
GTA 6 fan estimates over 1 million bugs during game development
A Redditor named u/NoClue1989 posted on the GTA 6 subreddit that the game could have over 1,000,000 bugs logged during its development. Since this was a bizarre claim, they explained how they estimated it.
Former Rockstar Games employee, Obbe Vermeij, had a blog about the development of GTA Trilogy (3, Vice City, and San Andreas) and GTA 4 after he retired.
In this blog, he talked about various details about the games, including how many issues the games encountered during their development. He wrote that San Andreas encountered around 70,000 bugs, while GTA 4 encountered almost double (140,000) of them.
Though Obbe took down his blog in November 2023, it has since been archived and posted on a GitHub page. Hence, the Redditor took the bug count of the two previous titles and started estimating the bugs in every title after GTA 4. They first doubled the bug count for Red Dead Redemption, then doubled that amount for GTA 5, and so on.
GTA 6’s bizarre bug count estimate and why it might be unrealisitc

The Redditor estimated that Rockstar’s next installment could have encountered around 2,240,000 bugs during its development period. However, the fan further explained that the figure seemed unrealistic. They dug deep into GTA 5 source code and found over 1,000,000 ticket IDs for BugStar (Rockstar’s bug tracking system). However, they argued that not all of them were about GTA 5.
Though it is possible that BugStar could have around 2,000,000 bugs during the game’s development period, it is also possible that not all 2,000,000 of them could be specifically related to it.
