Before we touch on the ending of Ghost Recon Wildlands Last Rites, some background context is needed. The story takes place across four regions from the base game (all crammed together into a seperate world map), namely Caimanes, Oroco, Espiritu Santo and Villa Verde.

With the arrival of La Llorona, she and her Cultists have taken over these regions, even leading to the Unidad police military force being driven out half-way through the campaign. The Ghosts will traverse each of the four regions in pursuit of clues from her Cultists, such as the reason behind her bloodlust, her whereabouts, and so on.

Early in the game it becomes quite evident that your CIA handler Emily Price has something to do with La Llorona, which does explain why she contacted Nomad and their team for help. Turns out, that La Llorona was an ex-CIA agent who worked under Price under her original name, Ines Cortes. Married to a cartel member Marco Cortes, she was seemingly executed by her husband alongside her twin girls.

Surviving the trauma and turning bitter and vengeful due to her childrens’ deaths, she now wages all-out war against the cartel, so much so that even Unidad is after her but unable to track her down. With the Cultists slowly taking over these four regions of Bolivia, you will try to thwart them while trying to piece together her wheraboust by investigating the blood trail left by her.

Fast forward to the finale in the final mission in Ghost Recon Wildlands Last Rites called The Price of Freedom, you will come face to face with the cult leader herself in Villa Verde’s Alta Gracia Mines with Emily Price in tow as well. It turns out that Price has been toying with you all along as well.

Thanks to the recording played by Ines Cortss, you learn that Price sold her own CIA agent out which eventully resulted in Cortes’ children being executed at the hands of her husband. In short, the Ghosts were called on stage by Price to help brush CIA’s mess under the rug, which is precisely what Nomad will do by extracting her.

Once she has been safely extracted back at the Espiritu Santo Alpha base, you learn that officially, La Llorona is announced to be dead, while on the backstage she is behind bars. This results in the cult and its influence in the rgion dispersing, while Price gets redeployed to Nagan.

Ghost Recon Wildlands and its free Last Rites update is on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
