England captain Harry Kane has named multiple teams that are the national team’s biggest rivals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Three Lions are heading to the World Cup in the United States this summer as one of the big favorites to lift the trophy.
Despite having a stellar squad each time, England hasn’t managed to win the FIFA World Cup in the last six decades. The Three Lions last won the title in 1966, which remains their only time becoming champions, while they were the host nation. This time, they are back with a squad with immense depth and potential and coach Thomas Tuchel at the helm to bring it home.
Thanks for the submission!
Speaking via B/R Football, Harry Kane named the teams that are England’s biggest rivals in this FIFA World Cup. He said:
“I think there’d be a few, like, you know, every major tournament – I think France, Argentina, Brazil, Spain – there’s a lot, there’s a lot of great teams. You could go through the list, and that’s what makes it so tough, right?”
He continued:
“It’s not just as simple as just two teams playing against each other. I think there’s a lot that goes, a lot of other stuff that goes into it, and we need to be prepared for that. But, yeah, there’s some of the teams, for sure, who will be a threat.”
Kane will be one of the Three Lions’ most essential players in the tournament, after a stellar season with Bayern Munich at the club level. The Englishman won the European Golden Boot this season, recording 61 goals in 51 outings across competitions for the Bavarians.
He is also the national team’s all-time highest goalscorer (79 goals in 113 caps), with his numbers only set to increase this World Cup.
Harry Kane could become the all-time highest goalscorer at the FIFA World Cup for England this summer

Among many records that can be broken at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Harry Kane could become England’s highest goalscorer in the tournament. This is different from the record he already holds as the national team’s all-time highest goalscorer across competitions.
Kane has eight World Cup goals to his name, which is only two behind Gary Lineker’s 10 goals for the Three Lions at the World Cup. Therefore, if Kane scores three more goals in this edition, he will surpass Lineker to be the national team’s highest scorer in the tournament. Lineker is also the only Englishman to have scored in double-digits in the FIFA World Cup, and Kane could join him in that league as well.
Given Kane’s output this season, he could score more than three goals and also be a candidate to win the World Cup Golden Boot. Moreover, if England wins or even goes far in this edition, the superstar striker could also be a potential contender for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.
