St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots (SKNP) all-rounder Dasun Shanaka almost pulled off a final-over heist with his incredible six-hitting in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 clash against Jamaica Kingsmen (JKM) on August 27. Chasing a daunting 183 for victory, SKNP were almost out of the contest at 112/5 in the 16th over when Shanaka arrived at the crease.
However, the 34-year-old, in partnership with skipper Jason Holder, brought the side back into the match with an array of boundaries. The equation was reduced to a still-improbable 31 runs needed off the final over, with Shanaka on strike.
The Sri Lankan right-hander smashed the first two balls of Odean Smith’s over for humongous maximums, bringing interest back into the contest. After a dot third delivery, Shanaka smashed a third six of the over, bringing the equation down to 13 runs required off two deliveries.
However, Smith held his nerve and conceded only a single off the final two deliveries, thereby ensuring JKM completed an 11-run victory.

Shanaka produced a similarly impressive batting display in SKNP’s previous outing against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. The veteran scored a blistering 49* off 17 balls, propelling his side to a formidable 187/6 in 20 overs.
However, the SKNP bowlers were underwhelming, allowing Antigua and Barbuda to chase the score down in 19.3 overs.
SKNP continue to languish at the bottom of the CPL 2026 standings
SKNP have endured a torrid 2026 CPL season thus far, winning only one out of their five matches. As a result, they are languishing at the bottom of the table at the halfway mark.
Since winning their solitary CPL title in 2021, SKNP have struggled, finishing fifth and sixth twice in the last four seasons. After splitting the first two matches of this season, Jason Holder’s side have lost three in a row, including the above-mentioned JKM clash.
With their playoff hopes slowly slipping away, SKNP will be desperate to end their losing run in their next encounter against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on Monday, August 31.
