BYD launched the third-generation Yuan Plus, sold overseas as the Atto 3, with its new Flash Charging and nearly 400 miles of driving range. The upgraded electric SUV is on sale now, starting at less than $18,000.

BYD launches upgraded Yuan Plus (Atto 3) electric SUV

The Yuan Plus, which is sold as the Atto 3 in Europe, the UK, and other global markets, is one of BYD’s most popular electric vehicles.

In 2025, it was the 13th-best-selling EV globally, with nearly 224,000 deliveries. For its third generation, BYD upgraded the electric SUV with its new Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology, enabling a longer driving range, charging in as little as 5 minutes, and advanced new safety and convenience features.

While BYD has launched several new vehicles equipped with the new tech, most have been higher-end models, such as the Denza Z9 GT, Yangwang U7, and the flagship Great Tang (Datang) full-size electric SUV.

The Yuan Plus, or Atto 3, is among the first mass market vehicles to receive the upgrade. BYD launched the upgraded model in China on May 21, starting from just 119,900 yuan ($17,600).

While that’s slightly higher than the outgoing version, which started at 115,800 yuan ($17,000), the new Yuan Plus features plenty of upgrades.

The new BYD Yuan Plus is available in four variants and two battery pack options: 57.5 kWh or 68.5 kWh, both of which are BYD’s new Blade Battery 2.0. The former provides a CLTC driving range of up to 540 km (335 miles), while the latter gets 630 km (391 miles).

All models are equipped with BYD’s new Flash Charging tech, enabling them to recharge from 10% to 70% in about five minutes. For a full recharge, or going from 10% to 97%, it takes just 9 minutes.

BYD’s new batteries maintain their performance in extreme temperatures. At -30°C (-22°C), it takes only 3 minutes longer to replenish the battery from 20% to 97%.

The new Yuan Plus is available with a rear-mounted electric motor producing either 268 hp (200 kW) or 321 hp (240 kW).

For an extra 12,000 yuan ($1,800), buyers can upgrade to BYD’s God’s Eye B (DiPilot) smart driving system, which includes a roof-mounted LiDAR and 30 advanced cameras and sensors, providing ADAS features such as assisted driving on highways and in cities, as well as automated parking.

Inside, the Yuan Plus features BYD’s new cabin design. The setup features a larger 15.6″ floating central infotainment screen, a smaller driver cluster display, a built-in refrigerator, a head-up display (HUD), an AI voice assistant, and new premium reclining seats.

Although the electric SUV is still among BYD’s most popular models, the Yuan Plus is facing a wave of new domestic rivals in China, like the Geely Galaxy E5 and Changan Deepal S05, in the compact crossover SUV segment.

BYD is betting that improved efficiency, faster charging, and added features will help attract buyers once again. The Chinese automaker is reportedly seeing higher-than-expected demand for new vehicles equipped with the battery and charge system. Later this year, BYD will introduce the new tech in Europe, the UK, and other global markets. As such, the Atto 3 is expected to receive similar upgrades.
