BYD is about to go head-to-head with Europe’s top luxury brands. Ahead of its official launch next month, new details reveal that the Denza Z roadster will feature a tri-motor setup, delivering a ridiculous 1,528 hp combined.
BYD Denza Z EV roadster launches in Europe in July
We got our first look at the drop-top electric roadster at the Beijing Auto Show in April. The arrival of the Denza Z “marks a watershed moment for the global auto industry,” BYD said.
As the “world’s first” premium auto brand with a new-energy approach, BYD believes Denza will crack open the million-dollar luxury supercar market, which has historically been dominated by European automakers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, and Maserati.
While BYD said the Denza Z featured “shattering high performance” with over 1,000 hp and the ability to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in less than two seconds, it didn’t reveal specifics.
In the latest batch of new energy vehicles approved for sale by China’s MIIT, new details were revealed on Thursday.
Based on BYD’s e3 platform, the Denza Z is equipped with three electric motors: one 670 hp (500 kW) up front and two 455 hp (340 kW) at the rear, delivering a combined 1,582 hp (1,180 kW).
Measuring 4,780 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,350 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,780 mm, the four-seat EV roadster is slightly larger than the Porsche 911 and closer in size to the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe.
The Denza Z is more powerful than both, with the 911 Turbo S delivering up to 701 hp and the Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe offering up to 1,153 hp.
BYD’s electric supercar can reach a top speed of 217 mph and weighs 5,842 lbs (2,650 kg) for the hardtop version.
The Denza Z will be available with a soft top and a souped-up track package that gains a massive rear wing spoiler.
It also features BYD’s new Blade Battery and Flash Charging system, but range and other battery specs have yet to be revealed. Since the Denza Z9 GT offers a WLTP range of up to 599 km (372 miles), the performance Z model will likely be around the same or slightly less.
Like the Yangwang U9, the Denza Z will use BYD’s Disus-M intelligent body control, enabling it to jump, “dance,” and even drive on three wheels.
BYD is currently testing the Denza Z at the Nürburgring ahead of its global launch at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, which runs from July 9-12, 2026. Ahead of its debut, the Track Edition model was spotted by @WilcoBloc ripping around the track.
We will learn prices soon, but the Denza Z will likely be more expensive than the Z9 GT, which starts at €115,000 ($134,500), including VAT.
