How do you weigh a planet you can’t see from many light-years away? Astronomers may have the answer — and it involves “reading between the rings,” aka the bright beautiful dusty structures that newborn exoplanets create around their young stars.Planets in general are born from the dust, gas and tiny fragments called “planetesimals,” that surround young stars. As a result, in their relative youth, these worlds are found still embedded in this natal-material swirling around in plate-like structures called protoplanetary disks. However, recent observations have revealed that as these infant exoplanets orbit their parent stars, they also carve lanes in…

Roman Reigns was backstage on RAW after an incredible two nights at Clash in Italy and on RAW. He told a 40-year-old Bloodline member that he should go on to win the King of the Ring tournament, dethrone Cody Rhodes, and win the WWE Title at SummerSlam 2026. Reigns may have possibly missed the memo, but usually, the King and Queen of the Ring winners get to face the World Champions of their respective brands at SummerSlam. The key words are “of their respective brands,” as it’s not like the Royal Rumble, where the winner can pick the Champion of…

The line at the Avis rental car location in New York City was packed with Memorial Day weekend travelers wearing sunglasses and hats, dragging carry-ons behind them and hoisting backpacks over their shoulders. In the pickup area, employees reversed freshly cleaned SUVs into parking spots one after another, preparing them for long holiday drives out of the city.  My friend and I were headed to Upstate New York to escape the cacophony of the city and spend the weekend around Lake George before hiking in the Adirondacks. Getting there, however, wasn’t easy. Amtrak tickets were sold out for the weekend,…

We may just have gotten an early look at the Pixel Watch 5 — and from an unusual source. Randy Pitchford, the creator of the Borderlands game franchise, posted a pair of images of a watch on X, saying that his friend found it underwater, while scuba diving near Saint Martin, as reported earlier by Kotaku.“He noted that the reverse of the watch indicates that it is a Google Pixel 5, which has not yet been announced, let alone released,” Pitchford writes. “It seems to be fine. The face indicates an empty battery, but seems to have enough reserve power…

Some of the most consequential companies in tech history didn’t launch with a splashy fundraising announcement. They started with a pitch. Dropbox demoed to a room of skeptics. Cloudflare took the stage before most people understood what edge networking meant. Discord was a scrappy game developer called Hammer & Chisel. Mint, Trello, Forethought, N26 — all of them passed through the same crucible: TechCrunch Startup Battlefield. That’s not a coincidence. Battlefield isn’t just a competition. It’s a launchpad, and the numbers back it up. More than 1,700 companies have competed on the Battlefield stage. Together, they’ve raised $32 billion in…
