This will be the state’s fourth international airport and PM Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the airport on August 1.
Developed by the GMR Group, the greenfield airport has been built at an investment of Rs 4,750 crore in its first phase and spans 2,203 acres.
Located near Visakhapatnam, the airport is expected to strengthen the Visakhapatnam Economic Region by improving domestic and international passenger connectivity while creating capacity for future growth. It is also expected to support cargo movement, tourism, exports and industrial development in the region.
In January 2026, an Air India aircraft from New Delhi successfully completed the maiden trial landing at the airport, paving the way for commercial operations.
The Bhogapuram airport is expected to complement the existing Visakhapatnam Airport, which operates under constraints because it shares infrastructure with a naval airbase. The new airport is expected to handle the region’s growing passenger demand while improving connectivity to industrial, tourism and logistics hubs.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday reviewed preparations for the airport’s inauguration and said the project would serve as a catalyst for economic activity in North Andhra by generating employment opportunities and improving regional connectivity and is part of the state’s efforts to attract investments and boost economic activity.
