Amit Shah directs enhancement of national cyber crime helpline '1930'; agencies to adopt AI for better reporting

NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday directed the agencies engaged in detection and prevention of cyber crimes and frauds, to further strengthen the national cyber crime helpline ‘1930’, both in terms of technology and infrastructure.Chairing a review meeting here to discuss issues relating to the helpline, Shah said the ‘1930’ reporting and redressal mechanism should be comprehensively modernised and enhanced by integrating advanced technology, including artificial intelligence (AI). To facilitate ease of reporting, he directed the officials to also use multilingual support. The home minister reviewed various citizen-centric mechanisms established to provide prompt relief to citizens from cyber crimes, particularly cyber financial frauds. He directed the agencies to work closely with the states to pivot each call received on ‘1930’ helpline, to its logical end, and asked that the grievances arising out of freezing of bank accounts targeted in cyber fraud, be addressed on priority. Also assessing the performance and effectiveness of the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS), Shah directed that its money restoration module (MRM) and the grievance redressal module (GRM) be reviewed regularly. So far, nearly one lakh citizens have benefited from the MRM and GRM mechanisms.Recalling the Narendra Modi govt’s commitment to building a security, technology-driven and citizen-centric cyber crime prevention and response framework, a home ministry spokesperson shared that Shah, at the meeting on Wednesday, also emphasised the need for robust measures to rein in mule bank accounts used in cyber crimes.
