All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Sunday lodged a police complaint alleging that several rebel leaders forged the party’s name, symbol and official letterhead to impersonate the organisation. In a letter addressed to the Officer-in-Charge of New Town Police Station under the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, the AITC sought legal action against Arup Roy, Ritabrata Banerjee, Javed Khan, Sandipan Saha, Biplab Mitra and others over an incident that allegedly took place at Novotel Kolkata Hotel & Residences in New Town on June 22.The party requested the police to treat the complaint as information under Section 173 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and initiate action in accordance with the law.Seeks immediate legal actionThe party claimed that the forged letterhead was subsequently used to submit a letter dated June 22, 2026, to the Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, with Banerjee allegedly impersonating himself as the “General Secretary” of the AITC.“Ritabrata Banerjee forged the Symbol and Name of the AITC to fraudulently create the Letter Head of the AITC using which he submitted a letter dated June 22, 2026 to the Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly impersonating himself to be the ‘General Secretary’,” reads the letter.AITC has alleged that the use of its name and election symbol amounted to forgery and impersonation, and has urged the police to investigate the matter and take immediate legal action against those named in the complaint.
