Air India, Drukair announce interline partnership to boost India-Bhutan connectivity

Air India and Drukair, Bhutan’s national airline, have announced an interline partnership that will allow passengers to book combined journeys on both airlines through a single ticket. The agreement will improve travel connectivity between India, Bhutan and other international destinations.

The partnership will provide coordinated baggage handling and passenger transfers until the final destination. Passengers will also have access to interline fares and connections through Air India’s hub at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Under the agreement, Air India passengers can travel to Paro via Delhi from destinations across the airline’s international network. They can also take onward Drukair flights from Paro to Bumthang, Gelephu and Yonphula in Bhutan.

The partnership will expand Air India’s connectivity to almost all countries in the SAARC region through its own and partner networks.

Drukair passengers will be able to connect through Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata to Air India’s domestic network. The destinations include Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kochi.

They will also gain access to international destinations served by Air India, including Paris Charles de Gaulle, Colombo, Newark, Frankfurt, New York’s JFK airport, London Heathrow, Melbourne, San Francisco, Sydney, Toronto Pearson and Vancouver.

“Our partnership with Drukair reinforces our commitment to strengthening connectivity across the SAARC region, which we consider our extended home market. Bhutan is a valued part of this region, and we are happy to enable easy access to Bhutan for our guests and look forward to welcoming Drukair’s passengers onto Air India’s extensive domestic and global network,” Air India Chief Commercial Officer Nipun Aggarwal said.“This partnership marks a significant milestone for Drukair as we continue to strengthen our global connectivity and enhance the travel experience for our passengers. Through this interline partnership with Air India, our customers will benefit from seamless journeys, expanded access to key international markets, and improved connectivity across India and beyond,” Drukair Chief Executive Officer Tandi Wangchuk said.

The partnership is expected to support tourism and business travel by improving passenger access between India, Bhutan and international markets.

Drukair’s current August 2026 schedule shows daily flights between Delhi and Paro, with seven departures a week in each direction. The airline also operates select flights linking Paro with Kolkata and Guwahati. Air India does not operate a direct flight to Bhutan, and its passengers will use Drukair-operated sectors under the new interline arrangement.
