Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie is headed to the team’s Hall of Fame, and that has got a lot of NFL fans talking. The franchise announced that Lurie will be inducted during a halftime ceremony on Monday, Oct. 26, when they host the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field.

Lurie, who bought the team in May 1994 from Norman Braman for $185 million, has overseen one of the most successful ownership tenures in modern NFL history. Under his leadership in Philadelphia, the Eagles won the Super Bowl twice and captured the NFC East titles 12 times.

“Jeffrey’s legacy and relentless dedication to this team are the reasons why we – the selection committee – felt it was important to recognize him with the organization’s highest honor,” said Eagles Hall of Famer Ron Jaworski, a member of the selection committee.

“Among Jeffrey’s many qualities, it is his unique ability to lead others that has allowed this team to have sustained success over a long period of time.”

Jeffrey Lurie’s Hall of Fame selection has ignited a lot of reactions among NFL fans. Many hailed the honor as well-deserved for the Eagles owner after more than 30 years of his leadership. Others, however, had a lighthearted reaction to the news, using it to take a shot at some other NFL owners.

Here’s a look at some of the reactions online:

Robert Kraft just fell to his knees in his private helicopter.

@MySportsUpdate Doing the ceremony on a Cowboys night is elite scheduling by that front office. The Linc is going to be completely unhinged before kickoff.

@MySportsUpdate Two new stadiums (The Linc and whatever we end up in during the 2030s) 2 super bowls, and one of the winningest franchises since 2000. Well earned.

@MySportsUpdate Somewhere Robert Kraft is weeping

@MySportsUpdate Hmm I’m gonna induct myself into my own hall of fame too

@MySportsUpdate JJ gets to see what it’s like to be an owner that fans love, and respect.

Jeffrey Lurie reacts to his selection for Hall of Fame

In a statement on Wednesday, Jeffrey Lurie described his feelings on being selected for induction into the Eagles Hall of Fame. He expressed his gratitude to the selection committee, the city, as well as the fans for their support for his franchise throughout his ownership tenure.

“Being selected to the Eagles Hall of Fame is one of the greatest honors of my life,” Lurie said in a statement on Wednesday. “It is truly rewarding to know that I will now join a distinguished group of legends who have all made significant contributions to this organization.

“From the very moment I became owner, I have been deeply committed to delivering a champion – both on and off the field – that our fans and city can be proud of. This franchise has given so much to me and my family over the past 32 years, and for that, I will be forever grateful. I would like to thank the selection committee for their support and am humbled that they felt I was deserving of this recognition.”

Jeffrey Lurie is not only being lauded for his commitment to sustained winning in his tenure as Eagles owner, but he is also being recognized for his significant community work. Most notable is his founding of the Eagles Autism Foundation and his support for research and programs related to autism.
