Jose Mourinho has reportedly decided to keep Enrick at Real Madrid this season. The manager wants the Brazilian to play in two positions and opted against loaning him out.

According to a report in The Athletic, Endrick’s exit for the season has been blocked, and he will be in the Real Madrid squad. He was in talks with Aston Villa, but has now been earmarked for backup roles at Santiago Bernabeu.

Mourinho wants to try the Brazilian star as a right winger this season and will also give him opportunities as a central striker. The manager does not see Federico Valverde or Bernardo Silva as options on the flank and wants to use Yan Diomande and Endrick until Rodrygo returns.

The Brazilian will also be fighting for the backup striker role at the club with Carlos Espi, who was signed earlier this summer. Kylian Mbappe remains the club’s main forward, with the young duo fighting for chances to replace the Frenchman when needed following the sale of Gonzalo Garcia to Fulham.

Endrick has always insisted that he wants to stay and fight for his place, and said last year:

“I’ve always loved Madrid. I’m super happy, and I hope to stay here my whole life to help Madrid. I’m really happy to have signed with the president and to feel what it’s like to be a Madrid player. I want to spend my whole life here, and that’s what I’m going to try to do because that’s what I want for my career.

“I’m in love with Madrid and I want to be here. I wanted to come here; it was my dream since I was a kid, and nothing else mattered to me. When the negotiations started, the only thing I asked my dad was if Real Madrid was involved; I didn’t care about any other team.” (via beIN Sports)

Endrick was loaned to Lyon in January after failing to get minutes under Xabi Alonso. The manager was replaced just days after the loan was agreed.

Endrick was ready to leave Real Madrid for the right opportunity

Endrick was quizzed about his future earlier this year, and he was quick to admit that his aim was to return to Real Madrid. However, he was not ruling out leaving the club for better chances and said:

“If I have to go back to Real Madrid, I’ll do it gladly, and if I have to go somewhere else, I’ll do that too. Options to stay at Olympique Lyon? Honestly, I don’t know. I’m here on loan for six months.”

Endrick played 21 matches in all competitions for Lyon, scoring eight goals and assisting as many times.
