BREAKING: Current WWE Champion Could Be Forced To Vacate Title Due To Injury

The injury bug has been hitting everyone in WWE lately and has plagued the title scene. A top champion could be forced to vacate their gold, if the latest report is anything to go by.

Chelsea Green’s future as WWE Women’s Champion has been up in the air since sustaining a broken orbital bone on Friday Night SmackDown last week.

The Hot Mess had just won the most prestigious title of the blue brand, winning a 5-woman Ladder Match to realize her dream at SummerSlam.

She was crowned the interim Women’s Champion while Rhea Ripley was recovering from a torn meniscus. Unfortunately, Mami went under the knife to repair the issue. This all but confirmed that she wouldn’t be coming back anytime soon.

In the wake of this major development, WWE officially recognized Chelsea Green as the WWE Women’s Champion, removing the “interim” label from her status.

All seemed right in the world until last Friday when Chelsea Green suffered an injury during the Women’s Tag Team Championship Match against the Fatal Influence on SmackDown.

The Canadian star confirmed the injury and said she would monitor her situation closely. There’s no word yet on how long she will be out of action.

Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer noted that Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid’s Fatal Flaw finisher caused Chelsea Green’s injury.

“There was a tag match they did on the show, and it was Fatal Influence versus Chelsea and Tiffany. They did the match and everything was going along as it should, and then at the very end Fatal Influence hit Chelsea with their finish. It looked on TV like everything was fine, but in fact everything was not fine. Lainey fell on Chelsea’s head in doing the move, and Chelsea broke her orbital bone. And so now the interim champion has a broken orbital bone. She’s acknowledged it.”

The wrestling journalist added that WWE will provide an update on her condition in a few days. As far as the future of the Women’s Title is concerned, he didn’t rule out the possibility of the 35-year-old star relinquishing her title.

“We don’t know how long she’s going to be out. Probably we’ll know in a couple of days. Maybe a deal where she can wear that thing on her face. Maybe she’ll have to also vacate. I don’t know what’s going on, but she is hurt. And I have heard people saying within wrestling that this is not a good finish anyway, so we’ll see if they end up getting a new finish. But it was one of those finishes where it looked like nothing went wrong, but somebody got badly injured.” (H/T – WrestlePurists)
