The report adds that Luther Burden III was attempting to make a contested catch on a go route. He then landed awkwardly mid-stride with most of his weight being on his extended leg. The pass ended up incomplete.
Burden III is gearing up for his second season in the NFL. He featured in 15 games (five starts) as a rookie, racking up 47 receptions for 652 yards and two touchdowns.
What’s next for Luther Burden III and the Chicago Bears?
Luther Burden III’s awkward landing on Saturday sent the Bears fan base into worry. The Missouri Tigers product is primed for a breakout campaign as one of the key parts of the Bears’ offense.
Burden showed promising signs as a rookie, with his speed, contested-catch ability, and route-running helping him to over 600 receiving yards. He’s now looking to step into a full-time starting role with the departure of DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills. However, further tests are needed to know the extent of the apparent leg injury.
The Chicago Bears ended their four-year playoff drought in Ben Johnson’s first season at the helm. Caleb Williams and Co. topped a stacked NFC North with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings trailing.
The Bears will wrap up their practice sessions before facing the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans in preseason. They’ll then start their regular season with a showdown against the Carolina Panthers.
