Veteran wrestling announcer Jim Ross recently revealed that his current AEW contract is close to its expiry. Now, fans on social media are sharing their reactions to the legend potentially being done with the Tony Khan-led promotion.

Jim Ross has been involved with All Elite Wrestling since the year of the company’s foundation back in 2019. The veteran commentator and interviewer lent his iconic voice to AEW’s programming, calling the action on its flagship show Dynamite, while also making appearances at pay-per-views. Ross has been showing up at the announcers’ desk less frequently over the past couple of years owing to his health struggles, and was last seen at work at Double or Nothing 2026 earlier in May.

Good Ol’ JR recently disclosed that he will undergo brain surgery to drain out excess fluid later this month. He also revealed on a recent edition of his Grilling JR podcast that his AEW contract is set to expire this August. Ross strongly insinuated that he may be done with his announcing career if the company does allow his deal to run out, albeit clarifying that he does not “want to be done”.

Fans have since taken to X/Twitter to share their reactions to Jim Ross potentially finishing up his All Elite Wrestling stint. While a number of users voiced the opinion that JR should officially retire this year, others argued that AEW and Tony Khan should keep the legendary commentator under contract and utilize him for special events and occasional interviews. Some even proposed that Ross could return for a brief tenure in WWE. Most fans in general were united in expressing their admiration for the 74-year-old for his work in the industry.

I don’t think he should re-sign. The good ol’ JR is long gone. It’s time for him to rest.

Would love to see him back in wwe. Obviously his full time days are past, but even a pre/post show or PLE main events. I think there is definitely something for him yet. Saying that he is healthy and ready to go.

Amazing career, what he’s given to pro wrestling has been a gift. Eye for talent, announcing, etc. JR will be missed.

I can see TK paying him to stay and home and have a comfortable rest of his life

Jim Ross is forever the GOAT commentator. If he ends at AEW, say ALL in, that would be great! If WWE by some mircale offers him a run where he can end it at Wrestlemania perhaps, that would be great too! Hopefully he can happy and healthy whatever he does.

A retirement at the end of the year would be fitting.

It remains to be seen whether All Elite Wrestling will retain Jim Ross’ services moving forward.

AEW legend Jim Ross on his upcoming surgery

On the latest edition of his Grilling JR podcast, Jim Ross disclosed that his upcoming brain surgery has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 12. The Hall of Famer confessed that while he was not looking forward to the procedure with anticipation, he did want it over with, stating:

“I got a big week coming up. My surgery is this Wednesday in Norman. I don’t want to say I’m looking forward to it, but I guess I really am to get to that point and get it over with. I have never had brain surgery before. I’m getting a shunt put in my brain. They say I’m only gonna be in the hospital for a day, so that surprised me and made me happy. I would’ve guessed longer,” JR said. [H/T: WrestlePurists on X]

Jim Ross shared that he will be undergoing brain surgery next Wednesday:“I got a big week coming up. My surgery is this Wednesday in Norman. Sportskeeda joins the wrestling world in conveying our heartiest well wishes to JR as he prepares to go under the knife yet again.
