American companies are deepening their engagement with India, with bilateral trade between the two countries expanding more than twelvefold over the past decade to exceed $240 billion, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said on Friday.

“Ten years ago, our bilateral trade was $20 billion. Today, it is over $240 billion. Those are real numbers. Those are real results,” he said.

The envoy said the growing presence of US companies in India reflects the confidence American businesses have in the country’s long-term growth prospects.

“We trust India, and we want to work with India,” he said, adding that interest from US companies in India continues to rise.

Highlighting the pace of corporate engagement, Gor mentioned he had met representatives from several major American and global companies in the past 24 hours alone, including Meta, Rolls-Royce and Netflix, and described the level of business interest as “unmatched.”

According to the envoy, American companies are approaching the US Embassy in India every day to explore investment opportunities in the country.”Every single day at the Embassy, I have American companies coming over and asking, ‘Is India the place for us to be?’ Week after week, we see more companies opening here, partnering with us and identifying win-win opportunities,” he said, adding that the strength of the bilateral relationship is reflected in the rapid expansion of trade between the two countries.

Gor further noted that India conducts more military exercises with the US than with any other country and said nearly 40% of generic pharmaceuticals used in the US are sourced from India.

He said these developments underscore the trust underpinning the relationship and pointed to expanding commercial and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
