The president of Brazilian outfit Remo has called out Neymar Jr for his antics in the aftermath of their Copa do Brasil clash. The superstar helped Santos claim a 1-0 win in the Round of 16 second leg encounter to progress to the quarter-final of the competition.
Remo president Antonio Carlos spoke with Portal O Fluxo after what appeared to be an altercation in the tunnel involving Neymar Jr. He referred to the 34-year-old as a ‘clown’, pointing out that his behaviour was unworthy of his status as a role model to younger players.
Thanks for the submission!
“Santos doesn’t need that. This rogue Neymar, whom a bunch of kids worship, put on his clown show here and even tried to provoke us on top of it. We’re to blame, for idolizing a rogue like that”, he said.
Neymar Jr started the game on the bench for Santos, who played out a goalless draw in their first leg meeting in the Copa do Brasil. He came off the bench at half-time alongside Willian Arao and Rony, and assisted Rony to score the game’s only goal in the 74th minute.
Remo were reduced to ten players in the first half after Marllon was sent off, but there was a bit of a scuffle at the end of the game. Neymar appeared to provoke members of staff of the club with his celebration and dancing, and they had to be restrained from physically going after the former Barcelona man.
Neymar was a game-changer for Santos, creating more chances than any other player on the pitch despite playing only half of the game. He has now registered three goal contributions in four games since the FIFA World Cup.
Neymar Jr targeted for abuse in Santos-Remo clash
Santos star Neymar Jr was subjected to abuse by the home fans as Santos visited Remo in their Copa do Brasil match. The 34-year-old played only the second half and assisted the winning goal for his side in the game.
According to those present at the stadium, Neymar was thoroughly harassed by the Remo fans throughout the encounter. He was the subject of loud boos and abuse which continued even after the final whistle.
The former Brazil international appeared to explode after the final whistle and celebrated wildly in the faces of the Remo staff and players after the win. The episode nearly turned ugly as the home side appeared set to attack him in the dressing room, but things eventually calmed down.
