    NFL exec kills Shedeur Sanders hype train with concerning review on “competent QB play”

    Shedeur Sanders is looking to become the Cleveland Browns’ QB1 for the 2026 season, but at least one person is not sold on his chances.

    On Tuesday, The Athletic’s Mike Sando released the results of a poll that he conducted with various coaches and executives. Sanders was ranked dead last out of 35 veteran (i.e., had played at least starting last season) QBs, with one executive saying:

    “He’s inaccurate at all three levels. I can’t tell if he’s going to get better, but there’s a huge gap between him and competent QB play.”

    Meanwhile, a pair of defensive coordinators said about him:

    “He’s not an on-time player, can’t really read through the coverages, is a little bit heavy-footed. He is thicker and harder to tackle than expected, but you shouldn’t lose to him. … I’d sleep like a baby if I got to play him every week.”

    Shedeur Sanders has separated himself from Deshaun Watson in Browns’ QB1 battle, according to insider

    One person who is backing Shedeur Sanders, meanwhile, is ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi. On Tuesday’s episode of 92.3 The Fan’s “The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima”, he said:

    “I’m starting Shedeur Sanders. … I think the biggest difference through five practices that I can definitively say is that Shedeur Sanders is taking care of the ball and he’s comfortable pushing the ball down the field. We’ll see if Deshaun can pick it up … he seems like he’s a tick slow in the processing.”

    He continued:

    “I asked (Watson) specifically if he’s still trying to react when they do the speed of the game, and he talked about letting his instincts take over. And I feel like he’s just hesitating a lot. I don’t know if it’s a mental or physical thing, but I kinda just see him hitched.”

    The Browns’ first preseason game is at the Chicago Bears on August 15. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. ET.
