The buzziest new hotel opening in Taipei in more than a decade may be surprisingly easy to miss—at first glance, there’s not much to distinguish Capella Taipei from neighboring office blocks and apartment buildings in the tree-lined Songshan neighborhood. But the moment you cross the threshold of the gleaming glass façade, the sharp edges of the fast-paced metropolis soften as you make your way to the welcome salons, the plush 14th-floor Living Room, and the 86 cocoon-like rooms.

Textures and curved lines dominate the design, conceptualized by Hong Kong-based architect André Fu, who took his brief—“modern mansion”—and carved out intimate corners brimming with textile art, Art Deco furniture, travertine floors, wood headboards, and a sculptural spiral staircase. But while every turn of the hotel, from the 14th-floor pool with views over the skyline and Taipei 101 to the restaurants, including the see-and-be-seen Plume, seem conceived to compel you to stick around, Capella is just as determined to nudge guests to immerse themselves in the city. A dizzying array of experiences, from tasting journeys with experts to the tea farms of Pinglin to boba-making sessions designed for kids, are on offer, each led by a team of “Capella Culturists.”

If you just want to pop out for a taste of local nightlife, Capella has you covered there, too—the standalone Glasshouse, a three-story venue a stone’s throw from the hotel, is home to three bars including Tilt, where Taiwan’s bounty is on display in creative cocktails crafted from local kumquat, guava, sand ginger, and tangerine.

If you love to travel, Capital One has a rewards credit card that’s perfect for you. The Capital One Venture X card offers the premium benefits you expect, for less than you expect.
