Veteran New York Mets starter Kodai Senga struggled in Friday’s second game of the series against the Miami Marlins. Senga was removed in the fifth inning after allowing three earned runs.

Despite Senga’s rocky performance on the mound in the 5-2 loss on Friday, Mets interim manager Andy Green defended the veteran starter.

“That was an impressive four innings,” Green said. “I think if I’m handling that right, that’s the end of his outing and he leaves the mound feeling really good about himself.”

MLB fans reacted to the Mets interim manager’s remark after Friday’s loss.

“Simping for Kodai Senga is a new low.”

“Andy Green is a loser and delusional. Giving up 3 runs in 4 innings is a very low standard and he found it acceptable.”

Senga held the Marlins scoreless over four innings before Jakob Marsee opened the scoring off the veteran ace with an RBI double in the fifth inning. The Marlins ended up scoring four runs in the fourth and another in the fifth.

Mets ace Kodai Senga admitted “fear” during Marlins outing

Before running into trouble in the fifth inning, Kodai Senga cruised in the first four innings, relying on his fastballs and signature forkball. Senga admitted that he had some “fear” during his outing because of his injury struggles over the last few seasons.

“To be honest, there was some fear – I hope it’s gonna go okay,” Senga said via an interpreter. “Despite that, I was able to go out there, not be too tense or anything, and go out there and pitch.”

Senga boasts a 0-8 record with a bloated 8.66 ERA in 13 games this season. He is expected to play a crucial role for the Mets amid Freddy Peralta’s trade rumors.
