Joe Burrow missed the playoffs for the third straight year in 2025, yet he somehow ranked higher than someone who did. And that does not sit well with fans.

On Thursday, the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback was announced as the 44th-best player heading into the 2026 season. It marks a 38-place drop from last year’s edition, when he was coming off leading the league in completions and passing yards and touchdowns in 2024.

Despite that fall, he still placed better than Bo Nix, who was 59th after helping the Denver Broncos reach the AFC Championship Game before a foot fracture prematurely ended his run. That was not lost on fans, who ridiculed the situation:

@NFL @Bengals @NFLFilms Dude played half a season and still voted way higher than Bo Nix

@NFL @Bengals @NFLFilms Joe at 44? Robbery. Elite when healthy 🔥 Who Dey!

@NFL @Bengals @NFLFilms His PR team might actually be goated

@NFL @Bengals @NFLFilms He should definitely be either number 100 or somewhere between 100 and 150. You can’t have the guy who leads in the league in 4th quarter turnovers anywhere near the top 50. It’s the hype aura that keeps burrow afloat. It’s sad 😩

@NFL @Bengals @NFLFilms Someone please release the criteria for this list im dying to know

@NFL @Bengals @NFLFilms Great white hope lol we see what yall doing

Burrow will have a largely unchanged offensive arsenal for the 2026 season. Chase Brown remains the lead back after breaking 1,000 rushing yards for the first time in his career, while wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins are coming off making the Pro Bowl.

It is the defense, however, that has seen the biggest overhaul. The Bengals lost edge rusher Trey Hendrickson to the divisional rival Baltimore Ravens in free agency, but they rebounded by nabbing Boye Mafe from the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Another Super Bowl winner, safety Bryan Cook, was also brought in from the Kansas City Chiefs to bolster the secondary.

The organization’s biggest move, however, came on April 19, when de facto GM Duke Tobin traded what would turn out to be the 10th overall pick of the following week’s draft for pass-rushing tackle Dexter Lawrence.

Ravens edge rusher compares Joe Burrow to Tom Brady

During the mini-episode, the Ravens’ Mike Green had a lofty comparison for Joe Burrow:

“Tom Brady. You could compare the two. They’re both in the pocket QBs. Pick up reads and blitzes easily. I think they play similar.”

The Bengals begin their season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 13. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. on Fox.
